Eugen Sandow: Strength and How To Obtain ItWhat were the fitness/weight training secrets of the early 2oth century's "Father of Modern Bodybuilding," a man who shaped a world class physique before there was such a thing as commercial or home gym exercise equipment and built a business that defined bodybuilding, strength training and home gym fitness?

Born in Prussia, Eugen Sandow joined a circus at an early age, working as an acrobat until the circus failed and he was taken under the wing of a Belgian strongman who instructed him in a resistance exercise system that  sculpted his body and brought him great athletic fitness.

Sandow made his way to London and then the United States, where he toured,  giving "muscle display performances." At the time, there were no health clubs,  were no popular weight training books, were no such thing as exercise benches, cardio equipment, or home gym fitness equipment.  And there were very, very few bodies like Sandow's.

Sandow toured the U.S. for three years, returned to Great Britain,  and opened the first of numerous successful "Institutes of Physical Culture,"  where he taught his secrets for strength training, muscle growth,  and physical development.  Simple  compared to today's health clubs, with an absence of cardio equipment and only relatively primitive weight training equipment, the Institute's provided Britons with a  core training approach that brought them unknown opportunities for muscular development, flexibility training, and weight loss. 

 As a strength trainer and businessman, Sandow  proved superb and went on to invent and market fitness/exercise equipment, fitness correspondence courses , and weight training books, including th one you see here. His inventions included a wall-mounted pulley exercise system that was the precursor for modern exercise bands and band training, and spring-grip dumbbells which provided a weight workout for major muscle groups and a weight workout for  the hands simultaneously.
